A Verse for Your Day 18 May 2020

There are many kinds of rings in this worlds today, but most imply some sort of covenant and authority.

Haggai 2:23 NKJV

[23] 'In that day,' says the LORD of hosts, 'I will take you, Zerubbabel My servant, the son of Shealtiel,' says the LORD, 'and will make you like a signet ring; for I have chosen you,' says the LORD of hosts."

According to Strong’s concordance, Zerubabel, is made up of two Hebrew root words. Warm and Confused.

We knowthat if we are luke warm, He will spit us out of His mouth, but the meaning here is, seemingly, scorched. What's in a name, they say. Well, Zerrubabel is perhaps confused, because things are not going well, as Governor of Judah. The book of Haggai tells us that the temple at the time is something of an embarrassment. It is nothing compared to that which it used to be. I think, if many are honest, the gathering of the saints today, is far from what we read in Acts and can be an embarrassment even to our saviour. Still he loves us, in spite of that, and is not ashamed to call us brethren. But I feel sure that were he here, Yeshua would overturn some tables today, and it is clear that Jacobs trouble, comes before His return. Jacobs trouble has begun. Churches are closed right now and more trouble is coming. But there is hope. After the scorching and confusion, the son of Shialtiel (he who inquires after God) is given an incredible promise. He will be made like a signet ring, for God has chosen Him and instructed him that he will build the temple. But in the preceding verses, God says: "Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying: "I will shake the heaven and the earth. I will overthrow kingdoms; I will destroy the strength of the Gentile Kingdoms". We should know that God takes no pleasure in this. Exekiel 18:23 Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?", says the Lord GOD. "and not that he should turn from his ways and live."

But sin and wickedness has consequence.

So, whatever you’re going through now or will go through, know this. Though you be scorched and confused at times, you are precious to God and he has no pleasure in the death of even the wicked. Your end is to be used like a signet ring. You are chosen and will be used to build God’s temple. But do not give up, for God takes no pleasure in those who turn back.

Luke 9:62 And Jesus said to him. "No one having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Father we pray for your kingdom to come and your will to be done upon the earth. Thank you that after the storm, there comes a time of refreshing. You are for us. And you will reward us, if we hold fast to our faith, in spite of things we do not understand. We are determined that we will keep the faith, no matter what and hope in you, no matter what we go through. Thank you, that you understood Zerubbabel's confusion, as you will ours, but your encouraging us to look to the covenant you have made with us and know that in the end if we do not shrink back, we will rule and reign with you.
