BLACK, WHITE OR COLOURED?
EVER WONDERED WHAT RIGHTEOUSNESS MEANS?
You might think: "What a stupid question". But perhaps you have not been to some churches lately. in a day when the book of Revelation of Jesus Christ, in Chapter 18, is calling out that we should come out of Babylon, lest we share in her plagues, we have many churches moving in the opposite direction. IS THIS THE GREAT FALLING AWAY?
“Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first” (2 Thessalonians 2:3).
Women in short skirts, kick their legs up in church, people dance around to voodoo drums, like demons. Preachers are led around at the end of microphone leeds, barking like dogs. There is is chaos instead of order. There is bowing down to graven images, expressly forbidden. Pagan practices and festivals are celebrated as Christian. And they do it all in the name of Jesus Christ.
Anything goes, as long as it is entertaining to the masses and brings in revenue. Everyone wants unity and the world to be one and to be at peace, but they do not want to listen to the ONLY ONE, who is able to give it to them . Like at the tower of Babel, people want to do it their way. As Spurgeon said: "Clowns entertaining goats."
WILL YOU BE ASHAMED WHEN CHRIST RETURNS?
Without the blood of Christ to cover our shame, all of us would have to face it one day. But how sad it is that so many are becoming so confused, through lack of reading of the word, that they do not know what righteousness even is anymore. Yet the world is clear on what it is and the shame we will face without it. No wonder we are called to seek the kingdom and His righteousness first and told that "my people perish for lack of knowledge".
In the Greek, it is also clear, that the shame we are talking about is serous. It has to do with disgrace and humiliation and Strong's even mentions disfigurement! Righeosuness by faith is not just positional.
SO WHAT IS RIGHTEOUSNESS?
is it just a gift of grace, unrelated to how we live?
1 John 2 28 And now, little children, abide in him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
29 If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.
John is absolutely clear. We are to practice the same kind of righteousness as the true Jesus did, walking as he walked. Can you imagine, that merciful as he is, he would tolerate sin. No, he would say, as indeed he did, to the woman caught in adultery: "Go and sin no more." Let us take up the challenge to live as he did and be righteous as he was and is. "Sin is lawlessness". It is a breaking of His commandments, whereas true love keeps them. How? By faith of course. He gives his spirit who does not sin to those who ask that his law may be written on our hearts. This is the new covenant in his blood. And if we fall, we have an advocate with the father, so that as we confess our sin, so he forgives us and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. That is the good news of the gospel.
