If anyone loves the world...
This post is primarily for fellow believers. How could we ask "the world", not to love "the world"? So scripture does not, but believers are a "peculiar people". They are "not of this world" and we are called not to love the world. Of course, that does not mean we are not love the people of the world. They, like us, are the ones Christ came to save. Loving the world, probably means different things to different people. But one thing is for certain. As Boy Dylan, the famous poet and songwriter of the 60's wrote in a song on his Slow Train Coming album: "You're gonna have to serve somebody." An excellent bit of poetry and song, well worth listening to. So this begs the question. Who am I then serving, really? If we are honest, we will likely have to agree that even as believers, we have often served our own lusts. The idolatry of Israel, brought judgement on the people of God, but blessing always came from obedience. Scripture teaches: "You cannot serve two masters." It particular it references the love of money, but we can surely apply this scripture wider than that.
24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can’t serve both God and Mammon.

1 John 2:15-17 (WEB) Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.1Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s.1Jn 2:17 The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever.
1 Peter 2:8-9 KJVS But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
1 John 2:13-14 NKJV I write to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.I write to you, young men, Because you have overcome the wicked one.I write to you, little children, Because you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers, Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.I have written to you, young men, Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, And you have overcome the wicked one.
