Verse of the day 1 June 2020
Did you know that actual saying comes for Nehemiah. Probably not. Because we
believers inherit a lot of popular verses, the context of which we know little about.
Exiled for their sins, Nehemiah and others endured a great struggle and opposition to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the broken walls of the ancient city. There came a point, after much of the work had been done, that they gathered in an open square and Ezra the priest was asked to fetch the Book of the Law. It was a solemn moment, for it had been so long since such a think had happened. Ezra climbed onto a platform of wood made for the purpose and opened the book of the Law, the Torah, and as he did all the people stood up. Ezra blessed YHVH the Great God. The people lifted up their hands and answered, "Amen, Amen!" and the bowed their heads and worship Yahweh with their faces to the ground. On hearing the words of the Law, all the people wept.
Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to Yehovah your Eloheem. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Yehovah is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10)
